Built my first HTPC (Home Theatre Personal Computer)
Sunday, 10. 26. 2008 – Category: PCs
The idea of an HTPC is to have a PC that can fit in with your amplifier/receiver underneath your TV which will act as a DVD player but with more features.
Hardware wise it is identical to a normal PC with CPU, RAM, motherboard etc etc but generally put in to more stylish cases specially built [...]

Google Chrome really Safari in disguise?
Tuesday, 09. 2. 2008 – Category: PCs
While enabling Google Gears from within the newly released Google Chrome, I noticed something odd about the wording.
In Firefox and IE, you get the same text:
Make note of the first paragraph. Now if you open up the same javascript window within Google Chrome, you get this:
Once again, note the first paragraph again. Within Google Chrome [...]
How do you play PS3 AVCHD ISO files on Windows?
Wednesday, 07. 9. 2008 – Category: PCs
Does anyone know how to play these files on Windows?
WMP, SMPlayer, VLC, PowerDVD 7 and PowerDVD 8 fail to play it.
Opening the ISO in WinRAR displays an empty file.
EDIT: I found out away in my post [How to] Convert AVCHD ISO to MKV.
Getting Creative X-Fi to work in Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8)
Monday, 05. 5. 2008 – Category: PCs
I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on my PC forgetting that I have an X-Fi sound card and that it wouldn’t work. I have used Ubuntu previously, 6 and 7.
But I thought that things may have changed, much like the ease of graphics card driver installation.
Previously I have ended up enabling on board sound and using that with ALSA within [...]

Creative continue to release poor drivers - No shock there then
Tuesday, 03. 4. 2008 – Category: PCs
Creative continue to release absolutely shitty drivers for the X-Fi range and I am sure their other ranges as well. After finding certain parts of the audio configuration weren’t available I decided to reinstall the drivers. While reinstalling I checked the Creative website and found there was a new beta driver out [...]
After finding out the performance of Crysis on a Windows Vista x64 machine running in x64 mode in DX10, I wondered about how much different it made over 32-bit.
Here are some benchmark results for a medium-high spec PC running Crysis on Microsoft Windows Vista x64.
The PC in question is the following specification:
Intel Core2Duo E6750 overclocked to 3.2GHz
4GB DDR2 PC6400 RAM
250GB SATA 7200RPM HDD
Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB overclocked to 560MHz core, 850MHz memory
This including case and PSU etc, excluding monitor and [...]
Bioshock and Securom
Sunday, 09. 2. 2007 – Category: PCs
Everyone is blaming Sony for the DRM fiasco involving Bioshock but what people seem to be forgetting is that 2K Games actually paid for Securom to be put on Bioshock. Securom has been known for a long time to cause problems.
Upon recieving my copy of Bioshock, I installed which all went fine, then the [...]
